Know who you are dealing with
A background check is the cheapest form of due diligence there is, whether the relationship in question is personal or commercial. It is a comprehensive process involving a search of more than 100 databases.
Personal background checks
People run checks before they get serious about a new partner, and increasingly before they move someone into a home with children in it. A check covers identity, relationship and marital history, financial red flags, and any public record worth knowing about.
A significant part of this search covers dating and social networking website activity, which is frequently where the gap between what someone says and what is true first shows up.
Business background checks
Before you sign, invest, lend, or hire into a position of trust:
- Company directorships, current and former
- Insolvency and bankruptcy history
- Litigation history
- Verification that the person is who they say they are
Discretion
The subject of a background check is never contacted and never becomes aware of it. The work is done from records and open sources. You receive a written report setting out what was found and, just as importantly, what could not be verified.
Call the office to discuss what you need and we will tell you what a check can and cannot establish before you commit to it.
What a background check cannot do
A background check is a search of records and open sources. It cannot access a person’s bank accounts, medical history, or private communications, and it cannot produce a criminal record check, which in Australia the individual must obtain themselves or consent to through an accredited body.
Our report sets out what was found and, just as importantly, what could not be verified. An absence of records is not the same as a clean history, and we will say so plainly.
